A bully needs the crowds' acceptance or his twisted since of humor has no audience. If enough supporters side with the victim and disagree with his childish behavior the bully will cease to be comical having lost his source of material. What they fail to see is the observing crowd vastly outnumbers the typical bully's measly followers. Weak of heart and gripped with fear the bully will turn on them. The follower of a bully is as cowardly as the bully itself. A bullied victim will take on the traits they have been exposed to seeing how the bully is accepted. A truly civilized society needs to recognize the behavior patterns that undermine its further development. They continue to bully because of those who laugh, joke and support the neandertholic behavior the bully demonstrates. Regardless of what emotional reason motivates a child to become a bully. This song speaks volumes for both sides of the daily conflict that occurs between the victims of bullies and the possible reality that eventually a bully may confront. The meaning is totally piercing and I just love the music. That is all I can bring myself to translate. They are remembering their own experience while they try to help others get through their own. Or they have been a bully and are now trying to repent of their crime, but that is a less likely possiblity then the first. Etc (too long to type it all) the writer of this song has experienced being bullied, I think. The phrase whenever I see black and blue, I feel the past, I share the bruise. If you bully that is what people will remember about you and not like you for it. You could be getting tormented by a complete stranger and you would never know. It could be true, with the things we have now, cell phones, internet, there are now cyber bullies. There is more of us, we're everywhere: the amount of victims aren't going down, that is what I'm translating form this. That is what I'm getting from that sentence. Make another joke while they hang another rope: bullies are not remorseful, they will make fun of you if you try to kill yourself because in their eyes you are pathetic. It's 8 am, the hell I'm in! Is signifying to me that either he didn't get much sleep because of his being bullied or it's the start of a new day of hell. (true, because the words don't hurt me unless I let them, not much of a comfort, but something) Break my bones and throw your stones, reminds me of the phrase, sticks and stones will break my bones, but words will never hurt me. Not severely, but the people who say it are being malicious so it isn't harmful either. Many people get bullied in some shape or form. We don't have to take this, we can end it all (x4) Your voice is strong, now right the wrong! My head is clear, my voice is strong, now I'm right here to right the wrong No one's gonna cry on the very day you die Push them to the dirt till the words don't hurt Make another joke while they hang another rope, so lonely We don't have to take this, we can end it allĪll you'll ever be is a fading memory of a bully We don't have to take this, back against the wall Truly abysmal. But there is more of us, we're everywhere The message comes off as hokey and hackneyed and the song itself is repetitive and sanitized to the point of having no impact. There's also the use of the dreaded kiddie choir which is something I wish musicians in general would stay the hell away from, it's annoying (only Pink Floyd and Gorillaz ever pulled that off without it being annoying!) The instrumentation is just a lame simple rising jolt that doesn't continue into the song proper, instead just sounding like noise in the background. In addition to that, there's also the most trite analogies possible being used, y'know the old "Sticks and Stones" line, a jab about being "Black and Blue" just really limp, overused stuff that has no punch at all. That's cruel in it's own right, are we sure Brent Smith isn't the bully here?. "No-one's gonna cry on the very day you die, you're a bully" "Make another joke while their hanging on the rope", damn. An anti-bullying song that proposes a solution.
